A car seat is arguably the most important thing you will buy for your baby. Because of this, most moms agonize over which one is the best for their new little bundle of joy, but when it was my turn, I was so overwhelmed after choosing everything else on my registry, the entire process went like this …
Me: Hey BFF, which infant car seat should I buy?
BFF: I used this limey green one. It was super cute.
Me: Ooh, limey green. I'll take that one please.
I didn't even think twice about it until I walked into my first Mommy and Me class and was greeted by 25 new moms – and 25 Graco Snugrides. Yes, apparently I missed the "every new mom needs a Graco Snugride" memo. Must have been out that day.
Well, I'm here to make sure you don't miss any memos!!! Diapers.com just released their Top 10 Hottest Car Seats list (based on 2010 sales) which details the top picks in each of the following categories: Infant, Convertible, Toddler and Booster. Here are the top car seats from each category.

Infant: These are rear-facing only and can be used from birth to 35 lbs. The bonus with these is you can pop it in and out of strollers and, if you purchase multiple bases, you can use it in different cars.
#1 Infant Car seat – Graco Snugride 35 ($154.99)
Inexpensive, safe and long-lasting, this classic is still bringing home the bacon in this category; however, I will say the new Britax Chaperone car seat (below, red – $229.99) is coming in strong at second place. Especially when you consider it has only been on the market for about a year. Fans of this model love the unique anti-rebound bar which stabilizes the seat in the event of a crash.

Convertible: These long-lasting seats start off rear-facing when the child is an infant but eventually get turned around to forward-facing when he/she meets the height/weight requirements for that seat.

#1 Convertible car seat – Britax Marathon ($279.99) – Holy Britax Batman! This beloved car seat company hold the top three spots (pictured below, in order) — #1 Britax Marathon ($279.99), #2 Britax Roundabout ($199.99) and #3 Britax Boulevard ($329.99). The quality is superb and word of mouth among moms is solid.

Toddler: Forward-facing only seats that lets your child use a 5-point harness release for longer.

#1 Toddler Car Seat – Britax Frontier ($279.99) Talk about growing with your child – this seat goes up to 85 lbs in 5-point harness mode and 120 lbs in the belt-positioning booster mode. Huh?? 120 lbs??? Wow – a few of my friends could sit in that seat. Haha. Graco's Nautilus ($169.99) came in at #2 in this category with users claiming it "moves easily from one car to another." Huge selling point because it saves you from having to buy multiple seats for different cars.

Booster: These seats utilize your car's seat belt and are intended for children who have grown out of the toddler seat but aren't big enough or old enough to use the adult seat on its own.
#1 Booster car seat – Graco Highback TurboBooster ($59.99)- this convenient chair easily moves from high back to backless booster. #2 Britax Parkway ($119.99) has cup holders and a special belt that keeps your child from sliding under the belt in a crash.
